CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (CFO)
Our client, a leader in modern furniture manufacturing and design with a national footprint, requires the knowledge and input from a passionate and commercially focused financial expert. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified individual to become part of the top management team. As part of senior management, your ability to help drive business growth whilst initiating alignment of financial systems and procedures will be rewarded.
As this is a rapidly growing, medium sized business and not a large corporate environment with mature systems, change is the norm. The CFO will be responsible to ensure that in-place financial reporting systems continually evolve and improve. Therefore, the role requires a strong manager who is also willing to be hands-on and identify and implement the best solutions to support the growth of the business to the ‘next level’.
The CFO will have ultimate responsibility for the finance team’s delivery of accurate financial records and reporting, produced in an efficient manner. The successful candidate would thus need to understand the function, the strengths and weaknesses of each member of the team, and every financial system used in the business. Although the CFO would not need to physically fulfil each role, he/she would need to know how to adjust the department’s strategy and tactics to optimise team performance and business systems.
The successful candidate will liaise closely with other functional areas to ensure business-wide alignment of financial processes, co-ordinate data sources and eliminate duplication, while focusing on data quality, reliability and usefulness for commercial success.
Location: Countrywide operation with head office in Paarl, Western Cape.
Minimum Requirements:
• A relevant degree in finance (Bcom, BAcc, Managerial Accounting or MBA), CGMA (CIMA) or CA(SA);
• 5 years’ hands-on cost and/or management experience;
• 3 years’ in a management role;
• Excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written);
• Experience in manufacturing/ retail environments will be to the candidate’s advantage.
Critical Outcomes:
• Custodian of financial systems;
• Deliver high quality financial reporting;
• Management of control systems;
• Leader of the financial/admin team;
• Implementation of margin improvements;
• Accurate financial analysis to guide decision-making processes;
• Active role-player in strategy development and execution.
Duties will include:
• Working closely with the CEO (founder and owner) and COO and reporting into their top management team;
• Managing and mentoring the finance team members;
• Liaising with colleagues in other divisions to ensure fit-for-purpose systems are implemented, used and integrated to the financial system. These divisions include:
o Sales division, comprising seven showrooms and various sales agents,
o Design and décor division, comprising the central buying and design functions,
o Manufacturing division, comprising the manufacturing and raw material procurement functions,
o Warehousing and logistic teams.
• Managing multi-disciplinary project teams and “change control” teams, comprising individuals from various functional areas to deliver on continuous system improvements;
• External service providers;
• Engagement with external auditors and financial institutions.
