WINEMAKER / CELLAR MASTER An exciting vacancy exists for a premier wine estate near Stellenbosch on the Polkadraai route. Known for its Shiraz, this Stellenbosch estate has the status as the home of one of the finest versions of this varietal in the country. This estate dates back to the 17th century and exports top quality wines to 4 major continents (Africa, North America, Europe and Asia.) The estate produces roughly 80% red and 20% white and is known for its premier Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as its Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The successful candidate should be enthusiastic and competitive with good work ethic, leadership, communication skills, the ability to meet deadlines and the ability to build strategic industry alliances. To be eligible to apply you will need a relevant tertiary qualification in winemaking, (preferably a BSc Viticulture and Oenology), 4/5 years’ winemaking experience in the South African wine industry and excellent computer literacy. The Winemaker reports to the owners of the estate and is responsible for, among other: coordinating harvesting activities * the full wine making process * blending and stabilisation of wines * managing quality control systems * bottling of wines * supporting the marketing effort * research and development * personnel management * cellar administration and all other tasks that are required. The successful incumbent of this role will be responsible for delivering the well-known premier quality wines and ensuring the brand reputation as well as the estate’s legacy are sustained.
