Our client, an established water development organisation in the agricultural and commercial sector, is seeking to appoint an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Buyer to join their team based in Paarl.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the procurement process, sourcing goods and services, building and maintaining supplier relationships, negotiating favourable terms and ensuring the timely availability of stock and supplies. This role is ideally suited to a commercially minded individual with strong negotiation, analytical and organisational skills.
Key responsibilities include: *Manage the full procurement process, from requisition through to delivery *Source, evaluate and manage suppliers while maintaining strong professional relationships *Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms and delivery schedules *Analyse market trends, pricing and product quality to ensure optimal value *Work closely with internal departments to forecast demand and maintain appropriate stock levels *Monitor supplier performance and ensure agreed standards are met *Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements and improved procurement efficiencies *Maintain accurate purchasing records and supporting documentation *Collaborate with Finance and other relevant departments to optimise purchasing processes *Provide guidance and support to members of the purchasing team where required.
Essential minimum qualifications, skills, and experience:
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related field;
• At least 5 years’ relevant experience in a procurement or purchasing role;
• Proven experience in supplier management and relationship building;
• Demonstrated experience in cost-saving and process improvement initiatives;
• A procurement or supply chain certification will be beneficial;
• Experience within the agricultural sector will be advantageous;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and perform well under pressure;
• Computer literacy; experience with Sage Pastel will be advantageous;
• Fully bilingual (Afrikaans and English).
