Our client, HP Smit and Seuns, based near Dwarskersbos on the West Coast, is a leading Farming and Packhouse business specialized in growing and packaging of premium quality potatoes to the local market and prides theirself on it’s commitment to top quality and sustainable potato production.
The role of the experienced Potato Packhouse Manager is to oversee their packaging and processing operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the packhouse, ensuring the efficient sorting, grading, and packaging of potatoes while maintaining the highest standards of quality and food safety.
Duties include: *Supervise packhouse staff and provide leadership and guidance to ensure smooth operations *Coordinate the receiving, sorting, grading, and packaging of potatoes according to customer specifications *Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate stock of packaging materials *Implement and enforce strict hygiene and food safety protocols to meet industry standards *Maintain equipment and machinery to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime *Liaise with other departments, such as production and logistics, to ensure seamless coordination of activities relating to Transporting of products to markets *Oversee quality control procedures to uphold product integrity and customer satisfaction *Prepare regular reports on packhouse performance, including productivity, efficiency, and quality metrics *Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
• Previous experience in a similar role within the agricultural or food processing industry;
• Strong leadership and managerial skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team;
• Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities;
• Knowledge of food safety standards and quality management systems;
• Familiarity with packhouse equipment and machinery;
• Own reliable transport;
• Ability to work in Afrikaans and English is critical.
