Pure Legacy (Pty) Ltd, with their head office based in Paarl, is in search of a Fruit Quality Manager to join their team situated in the Patensie and surrounding areas, Eastern Cape. This role has the potential to either be a permanent role within the organisation, OR, to act as an Specialist on a consultation basis.
The core focus of this role will be to provide accurate spcialist consulting services to the Pure Legacy group of producers through practical and scientifically sound recommendations. The goal is to build meaningful partnerships with respected Producers whilst striving toward a common goal of achieving long term profitable yields, whilst achieving overall buyer/customer satisfaction in various recipient countries.
Responsibilities will include: *Ensure that all fruit produced meets the high-quality standards expected by both local and international buyers *Conduct regular farm visits to assess the quality of fruit, identify any potential issues early in the production cycle, and recommend corrective measures *Minimize the percentage of rejected fruit or claims from buyers due to quality issues *Maintain a high level of satisfaction among producers and buyers by consistently providing practical and scientifically sound recommendations *Foster strong relationships with producers and buyers to ensure long-term partnerships *Increase long-term yield profitability by recommending and implementing effective strategies based on in-depth field assessments *Monitor and report on the success rate of recommended interventions, ensuring they contribute to better crop health and yield *Ensure that all fruit is compliant with international export standards, including phytosanitary regulations, MRL (Maximum Residue Levels), and other buyer requirements *Provide actionable recommendations and solutions that lead to measurable improvements in farm practices and outcomes *Provide regular training and updates to producers on the latest quality management techniques and scientific advancements in fruit farming *React swiftly to any quality-related problems in the supply chain or on the farm, ensuring timely solutions to avoid disruption *Establish Pure Legacy as a trusted advisor in the region by consistently delivering high-value consulting services to producers.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
• In-depth knowledge of fruit biology, pest management, and crop production techniques;
• Strong ability to inspect, monitor, and ensure compliance with local and international quality standards;
• Ability to identify quality issues and implement data-driven solutions for improvement;
• Expertise in compliance with export standards, phytosanitary regulations, and international buyer requirements;
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills with producers, buyers, and stakeholders;
• Ability to provide effective training to producers and staff on quality improvement practices and procedures.
