Origin Wine, located in Stellenbosch, has a position available for a resourceful, target-driven Wine Buyer with excellent winemaking process knowledge, paired with strong leadership & interpersonal skills, to join their team.
The successful candidate will be accountable for overseeing the comprehensive procurement of wine and grapes for OWS in alignment with sales forecasts. KPA’s will include (but not be limited to): *Sourcing of wine and grapes: Assessing the market & developing strategies to achieve goals, negotiation, allocation of tanks based on contracts, allocation of wine to bottle & bulk SKU’s for planning purposes, ensuring that products meet client expectations & stock is managed effectively. *Evaluation & pricing for wines: Establishing & maintaining systems for evaluation & pricing, managing pricing within agreed costings, ensuring payment terms align with company standards. *Managing of agreements & projects: Managing production agreements, implementing new agreements & projects relating to external wine & grape production, taking responsibility for new vine plantings and expansion initiatives. *Client Relationships/Marketing: Establishing & maintaining relationships, supporting sales & marketing initiatives (incl. attending tastings, shows) *Administration: Completion of SAWIS documentation, recordkeeping, stock monitoring, costings, upkeep of contracts, developing protocols, approving invoices, etc.*Quality Management Systems: Ensuring wine & grapes meet legal specifications, assisting with internal & external audits. *Health & Safety: Ensuring adherence to compliance & statutory requirements, and that maintenance & housekeeping meets required standards.
Essential minimum qualifications, skills, and experience:
• Relevant degree/diploma in Winemaking;
• Approximately 8 years’ production experience in the wine Industry, including cellar operating experience;
• Being a qualified wine judge on the Wine & Spirits Board will be advantageous;
• Strong computer skills (MS Office, SAGE);
• Valid drivers license & willingness to travel.
