The successful candidate will report to the Quality Manager and be responsible for: *Microbiological sampling for environmental monitoring *Performing preparation of media, reagents, samples for microbiological & PCR testing *Count colony forming units (cfu) on plates *Recording & reporting of results into relevant databases *Maintaining microbiology & PCR equipment by regular maintenance & troubleshooting of unexpected problems *Performing quality control to verify microbiological results & performance of PCR kits *Ensuring calibration & verification checks are performed on laboratory instrumentation according to set schedules and SOP’s *Keeping inventory of consumables & reagents, & coordinate purchases*Ensuring correct & safe disposal of chemicals, solvents & laboratory waste *Upkeeping of the Yeast RFLP database *Assisting with research projects & test studies *Assisting with maintenance & compliance of ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratory Management systems *Monitoring & reporting on the quality of potable water used *all other tasks related to the position. Essential qualifications, skills, and experience: • Tertiary qualification in Food Technology or related field (chemistry/bio-chemistry/ micro-biology); • 2-3 years’ experience in a wine intrinsic laboratory; • Good computer literacy (MS Office); • Own reliable transport.
