Our client has an exciting opportunity for an individual who has extensive experience in the cultivation of apples & pears to act as General Manager on a farm 10km outside of Greyton. This position requires a strategic and operational approach from a leader with the ability to work independently and with a Board of Directors, whilst organising, planning, executing and delivering on the successes of this well-established business. The General Manager will lead the team of farm, office and hospitality staff and will actively be involved in the production and operational activities. Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to): • Strategic input to the Board ensuring future business growth; • Business development by expanding current markets and acquiring new clients; • Establish worldwide distribution and negotiate contracts and deals; • Budget and manage the orchards to ensure efficient/profitable operations and ongoing fiscal responsibilities; • Identify equipment improvements, changes, and/or replacements; • Establish goals, direction, and vision while strategically planning all projects with the directors; • Direct and coordinate the overall operations of the orchards, hospitality department and other farming activities; • All other leadership and production functions related to the position of General Manager. Essential qualifications, skills and experience: • Diploma/Degree in agriculture will be advantageous; • At least 7 years’ experience in a similar role; • Extensive knowledge of growing apples and pears; • Previous farming experience with livestock will be advantageous; • Knowledge in viticulture would be advantageous; • Excellent computer proficiency; • Fully bilingual (Afrikaans and English).
