Arbelos Wines, a marketing company, situated in the beautiful Breedekloof Valley and known for producing bulk wines of outstanding quality, has an exciting position available for an experienced Viticulturist to join their team. The successful candidate will perform duties for both Slanghoek and Botha Cellars.
The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will entail supporting the producers' winemaking teams by delivering good quality grapes to the cellars. In addition, the candidate will coordinate the liaison between producers and Arbelos Wines regarding stock and logistics as general manager of Arbelos Wines.
Duties will include: *management and execution of farm and vineyard activities *developing and implementing vineyard management practices (including pruning, canopy management, crop control, vine establishment, post-harvest activities, block maintenance and a soil management programme) *monitoring of offsite vineyards and communication with producers to ensure quality *vineyard team management and development *managing the irrigation schedule, weed and pest control to ensure optimal crop production *budget and cost management in collaboration with management *staying up to date with the latest technology, techniques and research *recordkeeping & production reporting *handling of audits and related admin *communicating availability of stock with buyers *oversee logistical aspects where cellars are involved (dates, quotes, loading, etc.)*oversee management and financial aspects of Arbelos Wines related to buyers, cellars,distribution, etc. *all other tasks related to the role.
Essential minimum qualifications, skills, and experience:
• Tertiary qualification in Viticulture & Oenology;
• At least 5 years' experience in a similar role;
• Knowledge of relevant quality control systems;
• Excellent numerical & communication skills (Afrikaans & English);
• Strong computer proficiency (MS Office, Wine MS & relevant wine industry software).
