Our client, located in the Stellenbosch Wine Valley, has the above vacancy. The successful candidate is a self-starter with a relevant tertiary qualification in Viticulture and Oenology and 2 to 3 years’ experience of the total winemaking process. Computer literacy (MS Wine) and knowledge of quality control, dry goods and warehouse systems are additional requirements for the position. A passion for and understanding of traditional French wine styles will count in the applicant’s favour. The Junior Winemaker will report to a consulting Winemaker and the General Manager, and will be responsible for: • coordinating harvest activities • the total winemaking process • blending and stabilisation of wine • fostering relationships with bulk wine suppliers • creating blends for buyer’s own brand products in the export market • liaising with local and international wine buyers • managing quality control systems (IPW) • stock control • all cellar and production administration (SAWIS) • assisting with marketing activities and wine tastings • coordinating bottling and labelling runs • managing warehousing and dry goods • adhering to company and statutory health and safety requirements • supervising cellar staff • all other tasks normally associated with the position.
