Join this dynamic team today! An exciting position is available to a dedicated and hardworking Viticulturist / Farm Manager at Saronsberg Wine Estate in the beautiful Tulbagh Wine Region. Production Management: Vineyard - Plan farming activities using budgeting techniques to achieve production targets as set by management - Source required nutritional supplements to achieve production targets - Develop and implement an annual nutrient management plan, in conjunction with management and based on soil analysis reports - Develop and implement individual vineyard management practices. These include pruning, canopy management, crop control, vine establishment, post-harvest activities, block maintenance and a soil management programme - Manage the irrigation schedule, weed and pest control to ensure optimal crop production - Liaise with key agricultural professionals, e.g. fertilizer reps, chemical reps and contractors, to ensure smooth operation of the farm - Work within best practice environmental guidelines - Ensure any development work is undertaken with appropriate consent. Estate Maintenance / Environment: - Develop, review and manage repairs and maintenance schedule for the plant, machinery and infrastructure - Design and enforce security rules and policies on the farm - Ensure all relevant company policies are understood and adhered to - Assist in and manage any non-viticulture farming activities as required from time to time by management. Business: - Work actively as a team member in developing and achieving company objectives - Work with management to develop the business plan and annual budget - Monitor seasonal expenditure in line with the budgeted cash flow - Plan and supervise day-to-day labour activity, organize rosters and schedule necessary tasks/activities - Maintain healthy labour relations with permanent and casual staff in a professional manner - Provide training/coaching to staff to enable them to competently carry out their tasks - Conduct an annual review of staff performance and maintain employment records - Review, implement and improve health and safety policies and procedures - Ensure new staff are inducted and aware of company policies and are given role clarity. Requirements: • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar position • Relevant training/qualification in Viticulture/Farm Management • Skills in basic building, electrical and mechanical maintenance will count in the applicant’s favour • Team player, open to new ideas • Experience with IPW and WIETA certification and audits. This position will report to the General Manager.
