Our client, a private wine estate based in the Boland region, is planning to appoint an experienced Winemaker to act as Cellar Master but also take charge of the General Management role of this 125-ton estate. This position requires a hands-on approach from a leader who can organize, plan, execute and deliver on the successes of this well established business in its totality. The Winemaker/GM will lead a small team varying from vineyard and cellar staff to office/financial personnel. The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to): *the entire winemaking process and bottling *purchasing and ordering of barrels and other key process-driven materials *marketing of wines *ensuring compliance with relevant quality standards (ISO, HACCP, BRC), accreditations/certifications (IPW, SAWIS etc.) *inventory management of wine *health & safety requirements *personnel management *overseeing and managing the financial performance of the business (cashflow, planning, reporting to the owners etc.) *liaison with clients and suppliers *all other functions related to the position of General Manager whilst being responsible for the Winemaking process. Essential qualifications, skills and experience: • A relevant qualification in Viticulture and Oenology; • Minimum 5 years' relevant Winemaking experience; • Experience with premium bottled wines will be to the candidate’s advantage; • Experience in similar general managerial roles will be to the successful applicant’s advantage; • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to work independently.
