Our client, Eagles’ Nest Wines, situated in the historic Constantia Valley, is seeking to appoint a Cellar Master to their team, to head up the production function at this premium boutique estate. This position will initially be focused predominantly on the winemaking function, but will over time evolve to be equally aligned between vineyard, cellar and other farm management functions The successful candidate is an excellent communicator with strong technical and leadership skills, must deliver on strategic and quality objectives, and create the necessary operational efficiencies within the cellar and vineyard. A tertiary qualification in Viticulture and Oenology, and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar position is required The incumbent of this role will be responsible for: *Overall management of the winemaking function, including co-ordination of harvest activities, vinification, blending, bottling, labelling, and inventory management *Although initially a smaller percentage of the Cellar Master’s time will relate to vineyard and farming activities, the role will involve increased farming responsibilities over time, until eventually full responsibility for the overall management of this function, including co-ordination of seasonal activities, management of personnel, and development and implementation of long term planning relating to viticulture *Assist with marketing and public relations, and other tasks typically associated with such position.
